BECA’S BINGE AWARDS - TAKE ONE:

RATING: 9/10 BINGEABILITY

If you’ve been on Tik Tok lately you have definitely seen at least one or two videos about Netlifx’s new original tv show called “Outer Banks.” And, if you’re wondering if you should watch the show, this is the article for you.

My very biased opinion is, YES, you should.

The show is centered around four (very attractive) teenagers who live on the poor side of an island in North Carolina called Outer Banks. The main characters, John B (Chase Stokes), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara a.k.a Kie (Madison Bailey), and Pope (Jonathan Davis), have dubbed themselves as the Pogues, the misfits, surfers and poor people on the island, and derogatively dubbed the rich, non-surfers, on the island as the Kooks.

The group spends their days having fun without a care in the world on their boat, the “HMS Pogue,” or driving around in their brown and orange VW van, “the Twinkie.” The main plotline follows the Pogues as they search for the famous shipwreck of the Royal Merchant, and the $400 million in gold that sank with the ship. All while also dealing with personal and family issues and staying clear of Kooks.

You make be asking: Why did I enjoy this show so much? The lack of technology, abundance of adventure and true friendship - sometimes leading to romance… But, there is “No Pogue on Pogue macking.” - a very strict rule among the Pogues. It is clear that the group is willing to do whatever it takes to keep one another safe and take the “Never leave a Pogue behind” rule very seriously.

The relationships between the characters are well developed and each actor/actress provides an amazing portrayal of the characters and their personal lives. I was particularly impressed with Drew Starkey’s unforgettable performance as Rafe Cameron. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say Rafe is not the nicest person and makes some questionable life choices.

The plot is carefully written and full of surprising twists, turns, and unexpected confessions. The adventures that the characters embark on resemble 80s movies like “The Goonies,” so don’t be surprised if your parents want to watch with you!

Ever since I watched Stranger Things I was impressed with Netflix’s ability to choose the perfect soundtrack. Not only do the songs chosen for Outer Banks complement intense or romantic scenes, but also add to the moment. It fits perfectly with the overall aesthetic of the show and makes scenes more dynamic.

The show had me hooked and as soon as I had watched all ten episodes I immediately started rewatching. Every episode ends with a small cliffhanger that makes you want to watch the next one! But, binge at your own risk, there are only ten episodes of this highly addictive show!
